Flint, MichiganBy now, everyone knows about the water crisis that happened in Flint, Michigan. The crisis broken down is simple: a state's government decided to stop providing a town with fresh, clean water because it was too expensive. Flint was now getting its water from the Flint River. Ever seen the Flint River? It's not great if "great" to you means clean. I think Gov. Rick Snyder and I would have to agree to disagree on that one. Right after the change in reservoirs, the community thought something was off. Basically their water was coming out brown with a weird smell. Hmmm, interesting. Maybe the local river isn't the best way to provide a whole town with water. Why was the water brown? Wow congratulations just by asking that question you are smarter than Gov. Rick Snyder and the Department of Environmental Quality! The water was brown because the people in charge of testing the water and making sure it is okay to drink some how didn't see that the water had 19 times the amount of iron it should have had; this lead to the water being highly corrosive and ya know stripping the water mains of their coating (of course lead based) thus brown water happened. Ahh refreshing! Who was the fucking asshole that said "you know what, we should make our very sensitive water pipes out of lead!" What's next gonna make them out of mercury and arsenic?! Many families and children were affected by the lapse in judgment made by the people who were suppose to watch out for them. The community of Flint, Michigan was poisoned by their government. These decisions and disasters are always related to greed and sloth of companies and, in this case, their state government. Groups will always find an easier way out even if it can affect innocent people of Flint, Michigan. The whole water crisis in Flint started because the town was having financial troubles much like other towns in Michigan that were dependent on the automobile industry. They let their community have serious and long term health problems so that they could save a little money. I hope the Flint water crisis shows other state or national governments that they cannot cut corners when dealing with their people.

Flint's water crisis has been going on for so long that it seems that people have practically "forgotten" about it. Thank you for bringing it back to attention -- the government's slacker attitude towards providing the most basic necessity to life is absolutely enraging and should not be overlooked.

Tisk tisk Michigan... having spent half of my life in the state shaped like a mitten, I feel particularly sympathetic to the people of Flint who are now facing lifelong health problems because of the absolute corruption and "ignorance" (seems like they knew about it) on behalf of the local and state government. As usual, it is the the economically disadvantaged that receive the brunt of the negative effects. And now, the citizens of Flint will justifiably sue the government, win, and Michigan will be in more economic trouble than they would have been if they had just cleaned up the water.
